Our primary objective as a PTA is to provide PS98 with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. To meet this important objective, and afford services that are increasingly no longer covered by our school budget, we must fundraise. Though it may not be our favorite responsibility, it is a necessary one.
Details on each of this year’s planned fundraisers are posted on the web site and discussed at the General Meetings.
As the new school year begins, we would once again ask for your support so that we can continue making resource and learning opportunities available to our children.
Uses of the Funds (past, present & future)…
Art: In the past the PTA and the school have sponsored art through the Learning through Expanded Arts Program (LEAP). This year it is proposed the PTA sponsor an intensive Visual Arts Program/classes for all the grades, culminating in an exhibition.
Library: Through a generous grant and donations, PS 98 has a beautiful library for the students to use for research, reading, and borrowing books. Every year new books, CDs, and reference materials are purchased and an online subscription to Encyclopedia Britannia for all students to use at home.
Children’s Programming: Every year the PTA arranges for a variety of cultural/educational performers to visit the school.
Teacher Classroom Grants: Every year the PTA provides teacher grants to purchase items that will enhance classroom curriculum.
Health & Safety: This year the PTA is investigating ways we can assist in making the school a healthier environment.
Music: The PTA has supported the music program through the purchase of instruments.
Physical Education: The PTA provides new equipment as needed.
Science Program: In the past the PTA has provided funds to establish and support a Science curriculum.
Events: The PTA provides funds to enhance International Week, Field Day, Memorial Day Parade, Teacher Appreciation, Family Fun and Parent Education evenings at the school. A contribution is also made toward the 5th Grade end of year celebrations.
Enhancements: As needed and when funds are available the PTA has provided grounds beautification, auditorium audio system, floor mats and other small improvements to enhance the school environment.
Administration: This is kept to a minimum, and includes dues, office supplies, photocopying and bank fees.
Grants & Donations…
The PTA Grants Committee meets throughout the year to identify opportunities and complete grant applications for submission. In the past grant monies have been received for refurbishing and equipping the Library, Technology Room, and auditorium enhancements.
PS98 has also received donations from Corporations through Employee Matching Programs. If your employer has such a program and you would like to nominate PS98 as a recipient please email us at fundraising@ps98pta.com, or discuss with Principal Huggins.
